People of all ages have been getting active, connecting with others and exploring their local area as part of a new week of community walks across Causeway Coast and Glens.

Walking Week, which took place from 3–7 August, was a joint initiative between Age Friendly Causeway, Walking for All programme and the Sport & Wellbeing Development Unit within CCGBC.

Five walks took place across the Borough in Coleraine, Ballycastle, Portrush, Limavady and Ballymoney, giving people an opportunity to explore local walking routes while meeting others and enjoying the benefits of being outdoors.

Despite some challenging weather conditions during the week, participants enjoyed the opportunity to get active, socialise and make new connections within their local community.

Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens, Councillor Dawn Huggins said: “It was great to see participants ranging from children as young as four right through to older adults enjoying the range of fantastic walks on offer – proving the intergenerational nature of walking.

There’s nothing better than getting out in the fresh air for a walk – its’ a simple and accessible activity that people of different ages and abilities can enjoy together!”

Colleen Martin, Walking for All Officer, said: “Walking is for everyone, and Walking Week gave people an opportunity to experience that first-hand. Whether people came along with family, friends or on their own, the walks offered a welcoming way to get outdoors, meet people and enjoy a local route.

“We hope those who joined us will continue to walk with us through the Walking for All programme and encourage others to get involved too.”
