Winners revealed in ‘Capture the Moment’ North West 200 photography competition

Mon, July 24, 2017

A moment of reflection at the Joey Dunlop Memorial Garden in Ballymoney was one of the winning entries in a photography competition held during the Vauxhall International NW 200.

Professional, amateur and budding photographers took part in the initiative which was organised by Causeway Coast and Glens Museum Service. The theme of the competition, ‘Capture the Moment’, was open to interpretation but entries needed to relate in some way to the road racing event and its impact on the Causeway Coast and Glens area.

The three winners were chosen by The Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, Councillor Joan Baird OBE, along with Robert Dixon, and Gillian Lloyd from the NW 200 organising committee. They were presented with their prizes by Alderman Maura Hickey at a recent ceremony in Ballymoney Museum.

The Open Category was won by Petula Blair from Bendooragh whose entry ‘Time for Reflection’ captured two bikers in quiet contemplation at the Joey Dunlop Memorial Garden. James Shaw from Portadown was successful in the Under 18 category with his entry of racers at Black Hill, while Caleb Moore from Portrush won the Under 18s second prize with a photograph taken at Metropole Corner.

The prizes were sponsored by Causeway Coast Rentals, Snappy Snaps, Coleraine and Waterstones, Coleraine.

The People’s Choice award is still to be decided and all entries remain on display in Ballymoney Museum until Saturday 26th August. The winner will receive a prize sponsored by the organising committee of the Vauxhall International NW 200 so please drop in and cast your vote. The photographs will then be stored in the Museum Service archives as a captured moment in time.
