The Lynas Foodservice HGV (Category C) Delivery Driver Academy is a new and innovative academy for people across the Causeway Coast and Glens Borough who are looking to secure a job as a HGV delivery driver with Lynas Foodservice based in their Coleraine distribution hub.
The Academy is 100% funded for participants and is being coordinated by the Causeway Coast and Glens Labour Market Partnership who are supported by the Department for Communities, in partnership with Lynas Foodservice.
About the Job: You will be required to handle, unload and deliver a wide variety of frozen, chilled and ambient products to their customers whilst providing excellent customer service. Positions are full time, permanent. 48 hours per week equalised over a 17 week period.
What is the salary: The salary for a Lynas HGV Delivery Driver is £40,481, rising to £42,302 in April 2026. Overtime is also available at £209 per day.
What type of person is suitable: In addition to being physically fit and able to handle and unload products, candidates must be flexible with working hours, fluent in written and spoken English, have a strong work ethic and positive attitude to work. Candidates must also be able to work using their own initiative, have the ability to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines. Candidates must be 21 years of age or older and have a full car drivers’ licence with no more than 6 penalty points.
The Lynas HGV Delivery Driver Academy has 4 stages:
Stage 1 – Assessment and Application:
Candidates will be supported to complete:
- DLM1 Medical Assessment
- DL2 Licence Application
- Driver Theory Workshops and Theory Tests
Stage 2 – Short Work Trial (2 to 8 weeks)
- Once candidates have passed all theory tests they will complete a short work trial.
- The objective of the work trial is for the candidate to experience the job first hand, and also for the employer to help determine if a candidate is suitable to progress.
- Short Work Trials are undertaken prior to undertaking Class C driver training.
- Candidates who are unemployed are offered the opportunity to undertake a short work placement (via the DfC Work Experience Programme).
- Short Work Trials can be 2 to 8 weeks (the duration of the work will vary depending on available Class C training and test dates).
- If the candidate is currently in employment the work placement will be much shorter and arranged around their work schedule.
Part 3 – Driver Training and Test
- After completing the Short Work Trial candidates will commence driver training.
- Candidates will receive Class C driver training and also Module 4 CPC training.
- Candidates will undertake the Category C and Module 4 CPC tests with DVA.
Part 4 – Job Interview
- Once candidates have attained their HGV licence Lynas Foodservice will interview them for a driving and delivery job.
